Connect to Campus Wi-Fi Using eduroam or BOWDOIN Networks

Questions

  • Which Wi-Fi network should I connect to while on Bowdoin’s campus?
  • Is eduroam available for all faculty, staff, and students at Bowdoin?
  • What is the difference between the eduroam and BOWDOIN Wi-Fi networks?
  • Can I use these networks for both computers and mobile devices?

Environment

This article applies to all Bowdoin College faculty, staff, and students who need Wi-Fi access while on campus. It covers the recommended wireless networks for laptops, smartphones, and tablets, regardless of device type. The guidance is applicable in all academic, administrative, and residential buildings where Bowdoin Wi-Fi is available.

Resolution

  1. While on Bowdoin’s campus, always choose the eduroam or BOWDOIN Wi-Fi networks when connecting any computer or mobile device. Both networks are secure and supported for use by members of the Bowdoin community.
  2. If you are a Bowdoin faculty member, staff, or student, eduroam is recommended because it allows you to use the same login credentials at participating colleges and universities worldwide, providing convenience when you travel. You will log in using your Bowdoin email address and password.
  3. If you prefer not to use eduroam, or if you need an alternative, you may select the BOWDOIN network. This network is also secure and available throughout campus.
  4. Make sure to use your Bowdoin login credentials when accessing either network. Do not use the guest network for regular academic or work activities, as it may have limited access and is intended primarily for visitors.
  5. You can also learn more about eduroam and participating institutions at the official eduroam website.
