Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff connecting a Windows computer to campus Wi-Fi. Supported: Windows 11.

Bowdoin provides four wireless networks:

  • eduroam and BOWDOIN — For Bowdoin students, faculty, staff, and emeriti. eduroam also works for guests from other participating institutions.
  • BOWDOIN-GUEST — For campus visitors without a Bowdoin account. Provides internet access only.
  • BOWDOIN-PSK — For devices that cannot connect to enterprise wireless, such as gaming consoles. Requires registration.

Resolution

Credential tip: For eduroam, enter your full Bowdoin email address as your username (e.g., jdoe@bowdoin.edu). For BOWDOIN, enter only your Bowdoin username (e.g., jdoe). Your password is the same for both networks.
  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray near the clock in the lower-right corner of the taskbar.
  2. Select eduroam or BOWDOIN from the list of available networks.
  3. Enter your Bowdoin username or email address and your Bowdoin password.
  4. If prompted to accept a security certificate, click Connect. This confirms you are connecting to the genuine Bowdoin network.

Windows will save the network and reconnect automatically on future visits.

If the network does not appear: Make sure Windows is managing your wireless connections. Open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi and confirm Wi-Fi is turned on. If you still do not see eduroam or BOWDOIN, move closer to a campus access point or contact the Service Desk.
