Issue
- I can't open Outlook on my Mac, I get an error message.
- Microsoft Word doesn't open on my Mac laptop.
- I can't get Excel to open on my Bowdoin-issued Mac laptop.
- I just did the update to Outlook on my Mac, and now it won't open. How do I fix it.
Environment
- Student, staff, or faculty with a Bowdoin-issued Mac.
- Recently upgraded one to many of the Microsoft 365 (Office) apps, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or OneNote.
Resolution
There is a bug in the most recent updates that were distributed by Microsoft. They are aware of the issue and are looking to repair the problem. In the meantime, you can repair the issue by following these steps to re-install Microsoft Office 365. (No data is lost in performing this fix).
- Make sure all of your Office apps are closed. This includes Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote.
- Open the Self Service app from your Applications Folder.
- Search for Microsoft Office 365
- Click Reinstall or install under the logo.
- It will take a few minutes while we remove the broken versions of Office 365 and then install the newest version. There is a progress circle that should appear under the logo in the Self Service app.
- Once the link says Reinstall again, try opening one of your Office apps.
