What This Service Is
LibreChat is an open-source platform that acts as a gateway to a range of generative artificial intelligence (AI) models. Bowdoin Information Technology (IT) deploys LibreChat using Bowdoin services so that faculty, staff, and students can use a variety of AI models in one place, without the higher subscription cost of each model and with better data security than signing up for those models individually.
LibreChat is the recommended starting point for general, everyday AI use at Bowdoin. This service is where you get help with the platform, report a bug, share feedback, and, for students, complete the course that grants access.
Who It's For
Current Bowdoin faculty, staff, and students who have been granted access.
- LibreChat is currently offered as a pilot, with access granted as needed.
- Faculty and staff are granted access on request.
- Students gain access automatically after completing the required generative AI (GenAI) course in Canvas.
How to Get Started / Get Help
- Do you need help or are you having a problem with LibreChat? Use Request Help with LibreChat.
- Are you a student who needs access? Complete the Canvas course using Student Course on GenAI. Access is granted automatically once you finish.
- Did you find a bug in the platform? Use Submit LibreChat Bug.
- Do you have feedback or a feature idea? Use LibreChat Feedback or Enhancement Request.
- Do you want documentation and self-help resources? Use View LibreChat Info.
Not What You're Looking For?
If your need is listed below, use the linked option instead:
- Do you need the full Claude apps, Claude Code, or Cowork directly rather than through the gateway? See Claude in the Related Services section.
- Are you a student who has not completed the required GenAI course yet? Complete it first using Student Course on GenAI; access follows automatically.
- Do you want general guidance on using AI tools at Bowdoin? See the AI articles in the Related Articles section.
Service Promise / SLA
Help requests and bug reports are acknowledged within 1 business day, and most are addressed within 2 to 3 business days during the pilot.
