Fix Notability License Issues on a Mac or iPad

Issues

  • My Notability license is not recognized on my Mac or iPad.
  • Notability shows as unlicensed even though I am a Bowdoin user.
  • How do I access Bowdoin's Notability license?
  • What steps can I take to fix licensing issues in Notability?
  • Notability is not activating with Bowdoin's license on my Bowdoin-issued device.

Environment

This article is relevant if you are experiencing problems with the Notability app license in the following circumstances:

  • You are using Notability on a macOS device such as a MacBook Pro.
  • You are using Notability on an iPad running iPadOS.
  • You are a current Bowdoin faculty, staff, or student.

Resolution

Bowdoin offers a license for Notability for macOS and iPadOS, but only correctly managed devices that download the app from Self Service are covered. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the Notability license:

  1. Confirm you are using a Bowdoin-issued iPad or Mac. Personal devices are not supported.
  2. Confirm your device is properly enrolled with Jamf. The license and software are distributed by Jamf, which is usually indicated by the presence of the Self Service app. If the Self Service app is not present, contact the Service Desk or visit the Tech Hub for assistance.
  3. Download Notability from the Self Service app on the device.
    • If Notability was downloaded from the device's app store instead, delete it and reinstall it from Self Service.
