Environment

This article applies to all Bowdoin faculty, staff, and students signed in to Microsoft 365 with a Bowdoin account on a computer or mobile device. Applies to macOS Sequoia (15.x), macOS Tahoe (26.x), Windows 11, iOS/iPadOS, and Android.

Resolution

Sign out from a web browser

  1. Open your web browser and go to office.com.
  2. Click your profile picture or initials in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Sign out from the dropdown menu.

Sign out from Office apps on macOS

  1. Open any Office app (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  2. Click the name of the app in the top menu bar (e.g., Word, Excel), then select Sign Out.
  3. Quit all Office apps to complete the sign-out process.

Sign out from Office apps on Windows 11

  1. Open any Office app (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  2. Click File > Account (or Office Account in Outlook).
  3. Click Sign out under your account information.
  4. Close all Office apps to complete the sign-out process.

Sign out from iOS or iPadOS

  1. Open any Office app (Outlook, Word, etc.).
  2. Tap Account, then tap the account you are using.
  3. Tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out again to confirm.
  4. Close all Office apps.

Sign out from Android

  1. Open any Office app.
  2. From the app's home screen, tap the person icon.
  3. Tap your name (do not tap View Profile).
  4. Tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out again to confirm.
  5. Close all Office apps.

Sign out remotely from all devices at once

If you cannot access a device directly — for example, if a device was lost — you can sign out of your Microsoft account everywhere remotely.

  1. Open a web browser and go to the Microsoft account security page.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account credentials.
  3. Scroll down and select Sign me out.
Note: The remote sign-out may take up to 24 hours to take effect on all devices.
