Apple IDs for International Students

Question

In order to use apps provided through the US Apple Store, an Apple ID with a billing address within the United States is required.

Follow the steps below to create a new Apple ID with a US address.

Environment

An Apple ID is needed to setup a Bowdoin-provided iPad.

Resolution

Here are the recommended steps on creating an Apple ID (this process may change without notice, so the directions may vary)

• Go to Apple's website
• Using your Bowdoin email address, create an Apple ID by following the on-screen prompts.
  • Set a password by following Apple's password standards. Be sure to make it memorable, as it will be used often. Remember to not share this password with anyone.
  • Use a phone number you have access to as you will be asked to verify them during creation.
• After you create your Apple ID, scroll down to the section named "Payment & Shipping" and click Add Payment Method...
• For a payment method, you can select "None" or add a payment method.
  Bowdoin will provide many apps for use while enrolled in classes, but there are many more apps available that you might find useful that may have a fee that you are responsible for.
  • Even if you select "None", you will need to add an address and phone number.
    • The physical address you use must be in the United States. If you do not have a current US address, you can use your Bowdoin mailing address or you can use the address of the Mail Center which is 6000 College Station, Brunswick, ME 04011.
    • You can select "Copy Billing Address" to automatically add a shipping address.
• When you're done, scroll back to the top and click Save
