Environment

This article applies to Bowdoin College students and faculty who have received an Apple Pencil as part of the Digital Excellence Commitment (DExC) iPad kit. Current kits include the Apple Pencil Pro; older kits include the Apple Pencil 2. Note that lost or stolen accessories are not covered by AppleCare+ — AppleCare covers damage and malfunction only.

Resolution

Students — lost Apple Pencil

If your Apple Pencil is lost, replacement is your responsibility as a student. You can purchase a replacement directly from Apple or from the Bowdoin College Bookstore in Smith Union, which carries Apple Pencils and accessories.

Verify your pencil model before purchasing. Current Bowdoin iPad mini kits use the Apple Pencil Pro. Older iPad Pro kits use the Apple Pencil 2. These are not interchangeable — make sure you purchase the correct model for your iPad. Check the back of your Apple Pencil or your iPad box if you are unsure which model you have.

Students — stolen Apple Pencil

If your Apple Pencil was stolen, take the following steps:

  1. Report the theft to Bowdoin Security and, if appropriate, to the Brunswick Police Department.
  2. Obtain a copy of the theft report.
  3. Submit a ticket to the Service Catalog and attach or reference the theft report. IT can search for Apple Pencils by serial number if one is turned in to campus.

Faculty and staff — lost or stolen Apple Pencil

Faculty and staff who have lost their Apple Pencil should contact the Service Desk for guidance on obtaining a replacement. Please note that your department may be charged for the cost of the replacement at the current retail price of the pencil.
