Prerequisites

Before you can print to a PaperCut printer, you need to have some software installed. In most cases, this software is pre-installed on Bowdoin computers. If not, you can install it through the Self Service app on your Mac, or through Software Center on Windows 11.

  • PaperCut Client (also appears as PCClient or PaperCut MF) — required
  • PaperCut Print Deploy — optional, but the easiest way to install printers

PaperCut Client

The PaperCut Client must be running at all times — it ties the documents you print to your Bowdoin account. You can confirm it's running by looking for its icon in the menu bar at the top of your Mac screen, or in the system tray (bottom-right of the taskbar) on Windows 11.

Note: For more detail on what PaperCut Client does and how to start it manually, see PaperCut Client.

PaperCut Print Deploy

PaperCut Print Deploy is optional but is the easiest way to install Bowdoin printers. It shows you a list of available printers and lets you install them from one place. If you see a printer called Find-Me-Print on your computer, Print Deploy is already installed.

Note: For more on Print Deploy, see PaperCut Print Deploy.

How to Print

The steps differ slightly between macOS and Windows 11.

On macOS

  1. When you're ready to print, choose File > Print in your application (or press Command + P).
  2. In the print dialog, select your printer. For most jobs, choose Find-Me-Print — this sends your job to any Bowdoin release station. If you need advanced options like stapling or envelopes, select a specific departmental printer instead.
  3. Set your options (duplex, color, number of copies, etc.) and click Print.
  4. A PaperCut dialog will appear asking for your Bowdoin username and password. Enter your credentials and click OK. If you print frequently, use the Remember dropdown to stay signed in longer so you're not prompted every time.
  5. You may see an additional window asking you to assign the job to a project or account code. Select the appropriate code, or accept the default to charge it to yourself.
  6. Once sent, you'll see a notification that your job is queued and held. Click OK to dismiss it.

On Windows 11

  1. When you're ready to print, choose File > Print in your application (or press Ctrl + P).
Important: Your job is held for 48 hours. You can queue multiple jobs before heading to the printer — they'll all be waiting for you to release.
Don't see the PaperCut dialog? The PaperCut Client may not be running. Check your menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows) for the PaperCut icon. If it's not there, open Self Service or Software Center and reinstall PaperCut Client, or see Start the PaperCut Client on macOS or Windows.

How to Release Your Document(s)

Once your job is queued, walk to any Bowdoin printer and release it using your OneCard. There are three ways to release — this guide covers the OneCard method. For all three methods, see Releasing a held document.

  1. Go to the printer you want to print to.
  2. Tap your OneCard on the card reader near the touch panel. This signs you in to PaperCut on that printer.
  3. Tap Print Release on the printer's touch screen.
  4. Select the document(s) you want to print from the list and tap Print.
  5. A brief confirmation message will appear when your job(s) have been released successfully.
