Request Additional PaperCut Funds

What This Request Is For

Use this request to ask for additional free print funds if your PaperCut balance has dropped below $3.00 and you have a demonstrated need to print for coursework. This offering is for students only.

How print allocations work: All Bowdoin students receive a $60 print allocation each semester — equivalent to approximately 2,000 black-and-white pages. Unused fall funds roll over into spring. Once your allocation is used, print costs are automatically charged to your OneCard account. You do not need to submit a request for OneCard charging to take effect.

When to Use This

Use this offering when:

  • You are a student and your PaperCut balance has dropped below $3.00
  • You have an upcoming assignment or project that requires significant printing
  • You do not have sufficient funds on your OneCard to cover additional printing costs

When Not to Use This

Don't use this offering if:

  • Your balance is $3.00 or above — additional funds can only be requested when the balance is below this threshold
  • You are faculty or staff — departmental printing is managed through PaperCut cost centers, not personal print allocations; use Manage a PaperCut Cost Center instead
  • You want to add your own money to your PaperCut balance — print costs above your allocation are automatically charged to your OneCard; there is no way to pre-load additional funds
  • You are having a technical problem with printing — use Request PaperCut Software Help instead

Before You Submit

Have the following ready before filling out the form:

  • Your current PaperCut balance — check it via the PaperCut Client on your Mac or at papercut.bowdoin.edu
  • A brief explanation of why you need additional printing (e.g., a specific class assignment or project)
Important: Requests are reviewed individually and approval is not guaranteed. Funds are granted at $3.00 per approved request, and are intended for documented academic need.

What Happens Next

The Service Desk will review your request and respond within 3 business days. If your request is approved, $3.00 in print funds will be added to your PaperCut account and you'll receive a confirmation. If the request is not approved, you'll be notified with an explanation.
