Introduction
Laptops provided to students as part of the Digital Excellence Commitment (DExC) have updated and even software upgrades deferred for a period of time to allow Information Technology staff to run tests to ensure there are no major issues with the software. Some people, however, prefer to have access to these updates when they're available and are willing to trust that if there is an issue, they can work around it or are willing to re-install their previous operating system.
If you are one of those people, you can request that IT change the rules set on your laptop to allow access to updates and upgrades as soon as they're available from Apple. Click on the Request Access button on this page to agree to the terms of "early access" software updates or upgrades.
Note: This does not need to be a permanent change. You can request that IT reset the permissions at a later date if you desire.
Caution: Be aware that Apple does not provide a roll-back method. Once you have upgraded, to go back to a previous operating system or update, you will need to erase your computer and re-install the operating system.
Information Technology does support the latest public release of Apple software, however an answer may not be available and bug reports may need to be submitted to Apple before a resolution is obtained, if at all.
