Training Classes and Open Lab Sessions

These classes and open labs are for those responsible for managing and editing their department/office websites. All classes are taught using the new version of the CMS (Cascade 8), Bowdoin's web content management system. 

 


Introduction to Cascade 8, Bowdoin's Content Management System

Cascade 8 is the new version of software for editing department websites. This class is for web editors responsible for editing and managing their department websites and keeping them up-to-date. The focus will be on how to use the new CMS (Cascade 8) to edit and update pages using new page templates and an overview of the tools available to help organize and present content on the web. This class will be hands-on in a computer lab and there will be time to review your department website and to ask questions.

Department News and Stories

What is happening in your department? Do you have stories, news, and successes that you want to share on a department website? Learn how to use the news tool in the CMS, tips for writing and style guidelines, and how to best share your your story visually and with text!

Prerequisite: Department web editors who have attended the "Introduction to Cascade 8" class.

Tell us more about you! This class will cover editing and updating staff profile pages and how to hide or show them on department directory pages.

Faculty Profile Pages

Learn how to edit and update your Bowdoin faculty profile page. Add a new profile photo, update your publications, create a short bio about yourself. This class will introduce you to the updated web content management system (Cascade 8) and have you updating your faculty pages in 30 minutes!

Open Lab Sessions

Join us in the Kanbar 101 computer lab to work on your site, get feedback, ask questions about using the CMS, and get some suggestions for ways to present content on pages. Registration is not required, but Labs are meant to be open-ended working sessions, but if you're looking to complete a specific task,
