Training Classes and Open Lab Sessions

These Cascade 8 classes and open labs are open to staff responsible for managing and editing their department/office websites; faculty/staff interested in managing their own profiles; and student workers employed by departments/offices to manage web content. 


Introduction to Cascade 8

Cascade 8 is the content management system (CMS) Bowdoin uses to manage its primary website, bowdoin.edu. This class is required for editors tasked with managing their department/office websites and keeping them up-to-date. This class will be hands-on in a computer lab and there will be time to review your department website and ask questions.

Who should take this class?:

  • New web editors tasked with managing their department/office websites and keeping them up-to-date.
  • Web editors who have already taken the class and just need a refresher!

Objectives:

  • Learn how to use the basic tools within the CMS to update and publish content on department/office sites.
  • Identify tools available to organize and present content on the web.
  • Identify and correct non-accessible web content.

Staff Profile Pages

Tell us more about you! This class will cover editing and updating staff profile pages, plus how to hide or show them on department/office directory pages.

Prerequisite: None


Faculty Profile Pages

Learn how to edit and update Bowdoin faculty profile pages. Add a new profile photo, update your publications, and create a short bio about yourself. This class will introduce you to our content management system (Cascade 8) and have you updating your faculty pages in 30 minutes!

Who should take this class?:

  • Current faculty who would like to learn how to update their profile pages (www.bowdoin.edu/profiles/faculty)
  • Academic Department Coordinators who want to learn how to update faculty profile pages.
  • Others charged with updating profile pages.

Prerequisite: None

Open Lab Sessions

Join us for an open lab session to work on your website, get feedback, and ask questions. Registration is not required, but labs are meant to be open-ended working sessions; please be aware there could be a wait for assistance — attendees will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.
