Question
- What iPad apps are available to faculty and students?
- Are any apps pre-installed on the iPads?
- Are other apps also available?
- What apps are supported by the IT Service Desk and Tech Hub?
Answer
There are over 1.8 Million apps for iOS in Apple's App store. Fortunately, the most some of the most frequently used and requested apps for students and faculty for use in teaching and learning are either installed during setup of a Bowdoin iPad, or available as a self-service option.
"Pre-Installed" apps
There are a few apps that appear as if they're pre-installed when an iPad arrives. These apps are actually installed during the setup process. They were selected due to the frequency of use and their size. Smaller apps mean less storage and bandwidth needed.
The apps that are installed during setup are:
- Canvas
- CampusGroups
- Self Service
- Microsoft OneNote
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Teams
- Zoom
Self Service Apps
There are a number of other apps that have been selected and made available inside the Self Service app. These could be a combination of free and paid apps that would be purchased for use only on Bowdoin devices.
This list may change over time and can change if apps are also assigned to individuals. The fall semester will start with the following apps:
- Adobe Acrobat
- Adobe Premier Rush
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Fresco
- Adobe Illustrator Draw
- Adobe Photoshop Sketch
- Global Protect
- FlipGrid
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Whiteboard
- Microsoft Remote Desktop Mobile
- Notability
- Termius
- VNC Viewer
Other apps
Of course, with 1.8 million apps available, there are many more apps that can be downloaded using a personal Apple ID.
