Accessibility Options in Instagram

Alternative Text

Instagram uses automatic object recognition software to make a best guess at writing alt-text for posts. While helpful, it is not always accurate.

Video Captions

Any video posted to a story, IGTV, or post must have captions. Instagram only suports open captions (text added directly or "burned in" to the video that cannot be turned on and off). If your video has speaking parts or music captions need to be added. Captions should be synchronized and matched to the spoken words. If your video is short use video editing software to add video captions. Follow DCMPs captioning key for caption style techniques and guidlines.
