What This Service Is
Wired Network covers the physical, wired side of Bowdoin's campus network — the Ethernet jacks in offices and residence hall rooms, and the addresses and registrations that let wired devices connect. Use this service to report a broken jack, get a jack turned on or installed, request a fixed address or name for a device, or register a wired device for network access.
Who It's For
Faculty, staff, students, and departments who need wired network connections or device addressing. Some requests — such as static IPs and DNS names — require a justification and are reviewed before approval.
How to Get Started / Get Help
- Is a wired jack that used to work now dead or damaged? Use Report a Bad or Broken Network Port.
- Need a jack turned on, a new drop installed, or an extra port activated? Use Activate or Install a Network Jack.
- Need a device to keep the same address, or need a DNS name or DHCP reservation? Use Request a Static IP, DNS Hostname, or DHCP Reservation.
Not What You're Looking For?
- Trouble with Wi-Fi rather than a wired jack? See Campus Wi-Fi in the Related Services section.
- Need a public web address or a certificate for a site or service? See Domain Name & Certificates in the Related Services section.
- A whole room, floor, or building is down? See Report a Network Outage in the Related Services section.
