Office Moves & Equipment Setup

What This Service Is

When you move offices, receive a new desk, or reconfigure a workspace, your technology has to be safely disconnected beforehand and correctly reconnected afterward. This service covers the IT side of that work: unhooking and re-hooking computers and peripherals, handling monitor-arm removal and remounting, and adding an analog line when a fax-capable MFD is moving to a location that doesn't have one.

Who moves what: Facilities Management physically moves your equipment. The Service Desk handles the technical disconnect, reconnect, and reconfiguration so everything works at the new location. Printer and MFD moves are handled through the separate Printers & Hardware service.

Who It's For

All Bowdoin faculty, staff, and departments planning an office move, desk replacement, or workspace reconfiguration.

  • Individual and small moves: Use the offerings on this page to have the Service Desk disconnect and reconnect your equipment.
  • Full building or large departmental moves: These begin with the Facilities Project Management team, not this service — see below.

How to Get Started / Get Help

  • Moving your office or workspace, or setting up after a desk replacement? Use Request an Office or Workspace Move.
  • Just need a single computer unhooked before a move or hooked back up afterward? Use Request Computer Disconnect or Reconnect.
  • Moving a fax-capable MFD to a spot that has no analog line? Use Request an Analog Line for a Fax-Capable MFD.
  • Moving a printer or MFD itself? That's handled by the Printers & Hardware service.

Not What You're Looking For?

This service covers the IT reconnection side of an office move. If your need is below, start elsewhere:

  • Need a printer or MFD moved to a new location? Use Request a Printer Move under the Printers & Hardware service — that team handles the network reconfiguration and PaperCut updates.
  • Planning a full building move or a large departmental relocation? Those begin with the Facilities Project Management team as a larger planning conversation — contact Facilities to start that process, and IT will be brought in as part of it.
  • Need the physical equipment or furniture actually moved, boxed, or transported? That is handled by Facilities Management, not the Service Desk.
  • Moving a Teams desk phone? No request is needed — simply plug it into any network port on campus and it will work. See Setting Up Your Teams Phone at a New Location in the Related Articles section.
  • Mounting or moving a wall-mounted TV or monitor (not part of an office move)? See Displays & Digital Signage in the Related Services section.

Service Promise / SLA

Please submit move requests at least 3 business days in advance so we can schedule the right staff; larger moves need more lead time. Requests are acknowledged within 1 business day, and reconnection work is scheduled to align with your Facilities move date. For urgent day-of issues, contact the Service Desk at (207) 725-3030 or servicedesk@bowdoin.edu.

Provided By

This service is provided by the Bowdoin College Service Desk (IT Client Services & Technology), coordinating with Facilities Management and, for analog lines, Network Services. For urgent issues during business hours, contact the Service Desk at (207) 725-3030.
