What This Request Is For
Use this request to have IT reconfigure a campus network printer after it has been physically relocated — or to begin coordinating a planned move. Printer moves involve both Facilities Management (for the physical relocation) and IT (for network reconfiguration and PaperCut updates). Both steps are required for the printer to work at its new location.
Faculty and staff only: Printer move requests must come from a faculty or staff member in the department responsible for the printer.
When to Use This
Use this offering when:
- A department printer needs to be moved to a different room or building and you need IT to reconfigure its network connection and PaperCut settings
- A printer has already been physically moved by Facilities and needs IT to complete the network setup at the new location
- You are planning a printer move and want to start coordinating both the Facilities work order and IT configuration in advance
When Not to Use This
Don't use this offering if:
Before You Submit
Complete these steps before submitting this request:
- Verify the new location has power and a network port within reach of where the printer will sit. If it doesn't, contact IT before proceeding — adding infrastructure takes additional time and may involve cost.
- Submit a work order to Facilities Management to physically move the printer. IT handles network configuration only — Facilities moves the physical hardware.
- Then submit this request with the details below.
Have the following ready when filling out the form:
- The printer's current name or location (building and room)
- The new location (building and room)
- Whether there is a confirmed active network port at the new location
- The Facilities work order number, if already submitted
- Your preferred timeline for the move
Note: When a printer is moved, its name in PaperCut may change to reflect the new location. Be prepared to communicate the new printer name to everyone in your department who prints to it. IT will provide updated installation instructions once reconfiguration is complete.
What Happens Next
The Service Desk will review your request and reach out within 3–5 business days to confirm details and coordinate timing with Facilities. If a network port or power outlet is not in place at the new location, IT will advise on what's needed and any associated costs before the move proceeds. Once all physical and infrastructure work is complete, IT will configure the printer at the new location and provide the updated printer name and instructions.
