Sign-In & Account Access

What This Service Is

Sign-In & Account Access covers everything involved in getting into your Bowdoin account and the systems you use every day. That includes single sign-on (SSO), multi-factor authentication (MFA) through Okta Verify, and the apps that appear on your Okta dashboard.

Use this service when you can't sign in, when you're setting up authentication on a new or replacement device, when you want to add a backup sign-in method, or when an app isn't showing or working correctly in your Okta dashboard.

Who It's For

All Bowdoin account holders — faculty, staff, and students. Everyone with a Bowdoin account uses single sign-on and multi-factor authentication to reach email, Workday, Canvas, and other campus systems.

How to Get Started

Choose the option below that best matches your situation. If you're not sure, start with Report a Sign-In Problem and we'll help you sort it out.

  • You can't sign in, you're locked out, or sign-in isn't working the way it should but you can still get to this page while signed in — use Report a Sign-In Problem.
  • You have a new or replacement phone and need to set up Okta Verify again — use Set Up MFA on a New or Replacement Device.
  • You want to add a backup or additional way to sign in (a second phone, tablet, laptop, YubiKey, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or FastPass) — use Add Another Authentication Method.
  • An app is missing, duplicated, or won't open from your Okta dashboard — use Report an Okta App or Dashboard Problem.
  • You know your password and just want to change it, or you forgot it but have a recovery email or phone set up — use Reset My Password, which takes you to self-service password reset at login.bowdoin.edu.
Completely locked out and can't sign in to anything? You won't be able to use the requests on this page. Use the Request Emergency Sign-In Access service instead — it doesn't require you to be signed in — or call the Service Desk at (207) 725-3030.
Tip: Setting up a second sign-in method now — a backup device or a YubiKey — means a lost or forgotten phone won't lock you out later. For step-by-step instructions, see Sign In Using Okta Verify and related setup articles in the Related Articles section.

Not What You're Looking For?

  • If you need a physical hardware token (a USB key or a keyfob that displays a code) because you don't use a smartphone, use Request or Replace a Hardware Security Token in the Related Services section.
  • If you have never had access to an app and need to be granted permission to use it, use Application Access in the Related Services section — that's a different request from an app that should already be on your dashboard but isn't showing.
  • If you need access to a shared mailbox, a network folder, or a Box folder, those have their own request forms under Email, Calendar & Scheduling and File Management & Storage.

Service Promise

Sign-in problems that keep you out of your account are treated as high priority during business hours. Requests to set up or add authentication methods are typically completed within one business day. If you're completely locked out and can't sign in to reach this page, use the separate Request Emergency Sign-In Access service, or call the Service Desk at (207) 725-3030 — a phone call works even when you can't sign in. For current Service Desk hours and contact options, see Technology Support Options and Hours in the Related Articles section.
