How to instal Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is available to all current faculty, staff and students. It is available on campus and can be installed on your personal machine for as long as you work for or attend Bowdoin.

Versions for MacOS and Windows 10 are available and include applications like Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It also includes OneDrive for data storage and many other apps.

Office is part of the Microsoft 365 suite of tools. You can access the productivity apps such as Word and Excel on your computer by following the instructions below or you can access them from anywhere as long as you have Internet access by using Office 365.

To install Office for Mac or Windows

  • Go to
  • Log in with your Bowdoin user name and password
  • Once logged in, in the upper right, directly above the application tiles, click on Install Office Apps
    • You will get a drop-down. Select Install Office to download the application installer for the apps that come with the Office Professional Suite made for the computer you are logged in to.
    • Select Other Install Options to choose a different language or to switch between 32 and 64-bit versions of Office (we suggest keeping the default 32-bit version of Office).
  • The installer will start to download and additional instructions will be displayed.
  • Once downloaded and installed, open any of the applications (except Outlook) and click Sign-in
  • Sign in with your Bowdoin user name and password to authorize the applications.
