Resolution

How long can I borrow equipment?

Most equipment can be borrowed for up to one week. Special projects or circumstances can often be accommodated for longer periods — speak with an IT representative to discuss your needs.

Can I transfer my data to a borrowed laptop?

For short-term loans (such as a project or a brief trip), IT recommends not copying all of your data to the loaner. Instead, access your documents through Microsoft OneDrive, which is available on all Bowdoin-managed devices. IT can assist with installing OneDrive or other necessary software if needed.

If you are a student whose laptop has been sent to Apple for repair, your data should be backed up to OneDrive. While downloading everything to the loaner is not recommended, you can install OneDrive and sync your content for access during the repair period.

Can IT install software on a borrowed laptop?

Yes, IT can provide instructions or assist with installing some software on a loaner if needed. Contact the Service Desk to discuss your specific requirements.

What if I need equipment for longer than a week?

Contact the Service Desk at (207) 725-3030 to discuss extended loan arrangements. Long-term equipment needs may be handled differently depending on availability and the nature of the request.
