Environment

This article covers releasing print jobs using the PaperCut web portal and mobile release site.

  • Who: All Bowdoin students, faculty, and staff
  • When to use: When you want to choose which physical printer your job prints to, when a release station at the printer is unavailable, or when you are releasing from a phone or tablet
  • Network requirement: Connected to the BOWDOIN or eduroam wireless network, or the Bowdoin VPN if off campus
  • Hold period: Print jobs are held for up to 48 hours — jobs not released within that window are automatically deleted
Note: If you are at the printer, releasing directly at the machine using your OneCard or Bowdoin ID is faster. See Releasing a held document in the Related Articles section for all three release methods side by side.

Release from a computer — papercut.bowdoin.edu Release from a phone or tablet — mobile release site

Release from a computer — papercut.bowdoin.edu

Use this method from any browser on a Mac, Windows computer, or iPad when you want to choose a specific printer or when the release station at the printer is unavailable.

  1. Open a browser and go to papercut.bowdoin.edu.
  2. Sign in with your Bowdoin username and password.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Jobs Pending Release. You will see all your queued jobs with the time sent, printer queue, page count, and estimated cost.
  4. Find the job you want to release and click Print on that row.
  5. If your job was sent to Find-Me-Print, you will be prompted to choose a physical printer. Printers are listed by location — for example, Moulton-Union-Hallway or HL-Main-1. Select the printer you want and confirm.
  6. The job will show Queuing in the portal, then disappear from the list once it has been sent to the printer.
About Find-Me-Print: Find-Me-Print is a virtual queue, not a physical printer. It holds your job securely until you choose a physical printer at release time — this is what allows you to print from any device and collect from any campus printer.
Off campus? Connect to the Bowdoin VPN before trying to access papercut.bowdoin.edu — it is not accessible from off-campus networks without VPN.

Release from a phone or tablet — mobile release site

The PaperCut mobile release site is optimized for small screens. Use it on your iPhone, Android phone, or iPad when you want to release a job without walking to the printer first.

  1. Make sure your device is connected to the BOWDOIN or eduroam wireless network.
  2. Open a browser on your device and go to papercut.bowdoin.edu/mr.
  3. Sign in with your Bowdoin username and password.
  4. Search for or tap the printer you want to release to. Printer names are usually printed on a label on the physical device.
  5. Select the print job or jobs you want to release.
  6. Tap Release.
Using an iPad? The full portal at papercut.bowdoin.edu works well on iPad in addition to the mobile release site — use whichever you find easier.
